A mystery to solve…

When  we received this envelope with a note inside to help of course we took up the challenge!

But what was strange about these images? We started working in teams to ask some questions…

What questions would you ask when looking at this picture?

Wow in only one week…

Made a times table buddy

Created some fantastic collages

And much more…

Here are some pictures…

The collages need to be finished.

Write out all your 2x tables?

Ok I on to times tables…

From next week we are starting right back at the beginning with the 2 x tables in and out of order and all their factors.

Inspired by nature… Exploring habitats

We spent the morning exploring the natural habitat in our school. First we thought about the types of habitats that we have in our natural space then we went off searching for living things (in particular, animals).

We found lots of slugs, snails and wood lice under various logs. When a group aproached the pond, they excitedly found frogspawn.

After, we worked in teams to create a civilisation for the insects that we had found.

Perseverance was shown when they came up with challenges to make shelters stand up.

By exploring we found out more about the plants in this area and wondered if they were are crop what the different parts could be used for.

The inside of the crops stems were soft foam like interior. We questioned what it could be used for? Have you got any ideas?

Poetry

Children are invited to submit a poem about someone or something they love.  Perhaps your inspiration will be a pet, a relative a hobby or maybe something or someone else.  There will be prizes for the best Reception/ KS1 entries, and best KS2 entries.  Winners will have their poems read out on Rosendale Radio before school breaks up for the half term holiday.  Please hand entries in to the school office by Monday 8 February.

feelings

Can you tell how someone is feeling by how they act?

Today we have started to write our own stories about Varjak. Our opening scene described how Varjak was feeling and where he was.

We were given a check list

LO: Use Adverbial phrases to show not tell. I am writing some short sentences to build up tension.

Paragraph setting the scene will have:

  • Describing how Varjak felt, without saying.
  • Describing where Varjak was.

It has

  • An adverbial phrase
  • Says how he was feeling without telling.
  • Some short sentences to build tension.
  • Nouns and pronouns to avoid repetition.

Can you tell how Varjak is feeling in this sentence below?

As the moon reflected on the wet street, Varjak shivered. He plodded along in the darkness. His ears pricked. Eyes searching in to the distance for food.

Spellings

Most of us started practising our spellings for the week… Here they are. How many times can you find these words in the books, posters and magazines that you read this week?

Comment below with a sentence including one or more of these words and receive a house point.

You will also notice some words to the right, ending in ly. This is our spelling pattern that we are looking at this week. We are learning what happens to the ending of these words when ly is added.

Can you think of more words that end in ly?
